Up Wide for Andy Boy Produce
No one has ever said it is easy to get
kids to eat their vegetables. But there are some strategies that
can make it a fun and flavorful activity they’ll learn to
love.
- Offer raw vegetables to children over the age of three. Many
don’t like the texture of soft cooked ones, but crunchy
finger food, like florets of Andy Boy broccoli and cauliflower,
served with low-fat dressings for dipping, have lots of kid appeal.
- Let children help with the cooking. They are more likely to
eat what they had a hand in preparing.
- Serve vegetables at the beginning of the meal when children
are the hungriest and most likely to eat.
- Sneak vegetables into favorite foods. Add cooked broccoli to
quesadillas or thinly sliced and blanched fennel to a cheese pizza.
Mix chopped Andy Boy cauliflower and broccoli into a soft cream
cheese and spread on a bagel. They won’t even realize what
they are eating is a healthful treat.
- When you go to the grocery store, let your children pick out
what vegetable they want to try that week. Try it every time you
go to the store and their veggie-eating repetoire can continue
to grow in variety and frequency.
- Set a good example and be sure to eat your vegetables, too!
- Don’t give up! Even if kids balk, continue to offer and
encourage them to try vegetables.
One day, they might shock you by saying yes to a tasty
chunk of Andy Boy Cauliflower. Or another intriguing vegetable.
Nifty Trick
Buy a salad spinner and put your kids in charge. They
will get a kick out of washing Andy Boy Romaine hearts and putting
it into the spinner and whirring until the lettuce is crisp. The
official Salad Spinner gets to serve the salad into bowls with handy
tongs and select the low-fat dressing to put on top.
