Building A Safer World for Andy Boy Employees

Making a commitment to creating an environment where employees can flourish—even in a constantly changing and challenging one—is where Andy Boy excels. For us, employee safety is a top priority and the company’s track record proves this out. Due to a variety of innovative incentive programs aimed at encouraging and reducing on-the-job injuries, Andy Boy has seen a remarkable decrease.

In the past ten years, Andy Boy has reduced injuries by 50%, while in the same time period, increased by two times the number of man-hours on the job.

How did we accomplish such dramatic changes? John Snell, Andy Boy Safety Manager has spent the last dozen years creating safety-training programs that focus on employee and supervisor training for CPR and First Aid. Other programs are dedicated to weather-related issues, like heatstroke training, mud safety and sun safety. Every employee is trained in Worker Protection-developing knowledge of pesticides and chemicals at work and at home.

Every morning certified drivers make a full inspection of employee transport vehicles. When workers exit the bus, they begin their own first daily safety measure—the Andy Boy Field Warm-up Program. This breakthrough program was designed by a physical therapist especially for the repetitive tasks typical of fieldwork. It combines 5-7 minutes of stretches and isometric exercises to ensure a healthful start of every day. Even in the company’s offices, regular 5-minute breaks subdue the monotony and impact of constant keyboarding. The results of these programs have lead to a 50% reduction in back injuries and have earned a stellar record from CALOSHA.
