Summary/objective:

Performs varied row crop production functions under minimum supervision from Production Assistant Superintendent.  The majority of time will be dedicated to coordinating irrigation trials with Production Supervisors on a daily basis.  Responsible for monitoring and documenting research trials for various crop irrigation needs, fertigation, plant nutrition and soil fertility.  Activities require the use of initiative and judgment, particularly when prioritizing work or working with a diverse group of employees and service companies.

  • Implement and monitor all irrigation trials
  • Learn cultural practices of growing cool season vegetables in the central coast region
  • Assist in in-house production projects through research and trial experimentation
  • Ensure irrigation trial objectives are understood and properly implemented.
  • Primarily responsible for the collection, aggregation, processing, and cataloging of soil and water samples and the resulting data
  • Train and support production supervisors to use web-based data sharing platforms
  • Participate in company-wide enforcement of pesticide safety policies and practices to conserve and protect water, soil and other natural resources
  • This position requires regular driving as an essential job function in overseeing and coordinating various aspects of the Production process
  • Consistent attendance is mandatory

Required education and experience:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to communicate with all levels of management and operations personnel
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment and handle pressure while managing multiple tasks
  • Organized team player who works well with a variety of people with a minimum of supervision
  • Solid problem-solving skills with a methodical approach
  • Valid driver’s license and clean record
  • Basic knowledge and experience with Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary
  • Willingness and ability to work weekends as needed

Preferred education and experience:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish highly desired
  • BA/BS in Agricultural related field
  • Basic practical knowledge of row crops
  • Basic understanding of soil, water and plant interactions
  • Basic understanding of plant nutrition, plant disease and pest and weed control
  • Operation of standard office equipment, including personal computers, photocopiers, fax machines and appropriate software such as Windows, MS Word and Excel
