Summary/objective:

This individual has an understanding of everything an Assistant Supervisor does and can assist with and produce quality supervision needed.

  • Strategic leadership
  • Directs drivers to different ranches and fields to carry out duties.
  • Has an understanding of special training for specific job functions, special equipment to be used, and dedicated storage of different chemicals.
  • Supervises employees and directing their daily job duties
  • Keeps inventories of materials in stock
  • Helps keep up to date inventory of shade trailers.
  • Sets up training sessions with harvesting support group
  • Ensure safety rules are being followed such as special reflective gear, wearing night-lights (head), etc.
  • Involved with food safety training on how to supervise equipment is being washed correctly.
  • Performs budgeting, payroll functions for the department and gives presentations
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment and handle pressure while managing multiple tasks
  • Uses math, comprehension, analytical, organizational and decision-making skills
  • Inter-department collaboration with other departments
  • Has understanding of logistics and transportation
  • This position requires regular driving as an essential job function in overseeing and coordinating various aspects of the harvesting process
  • Consistent attendance is mandatory

Work environment:

  • Mostly outdoor with occasional indoor work
  • Full time, working a schedule of up to 12-hour days and up to 6-7 days a week

Travel required:

  • Seasonal travel required Salinas CA to Brawley CA/Yuma AZ/Mexico to Salinas CA
  • Rare overnight travel

Required education and experience:

  • Must have experience in harvesting and inspection of product
  • Must have experience supervising hourly employees, union experience a plus
  • Organized team player who works well with a variety of people with a minimum of supervision
  • Bilingual and biliterate in English/Spanish including the ability to effectively present facts and recommendations in oral or written form.
  • Have knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements, fill out driver logs, know how to calculate on duty and off duty hours.
  • Solid problem-solving skills with a methodical approach
  • Must possess a valid driver license and clean record
  • Must have the ability to work with mobile applications

Preferred education and experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in harvesting produce
  • High School education
  • A minimum of 6 months’ experience working with Microsoft Windows, Outlook, and Excel and be able to use hand scanner and print labels
  • Commercial A or B, a farm labor bus certificate is a plus
