Summary/objective:

Responsible for assisting with ensuring compliance with all company-wide safety and risk management programs. Must be a knowledgeable and efficient hands-on safety resource to all operations company-wide, with the ability to identify safety issues and recommend a resolution to management in a timely manner.

  • Manages regulatory compliance by staying up-to-date on changes to safety regulations and ensuring that the company remains in compliance with all applicable laws and standards. Liaise with regulatory agencies as needed.
  • Assists in maintaining and updating written safety programs for operations and facilities in all districts.
  • Works closely with HR management to develop, implement, and update regulatory policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws, as well as regulations set forth by relevant regulatory agencies.
  • Collaborates with subject matter experts and other stakeholders to assist in the development of policies that address relevant safety requirements.
  • Facilitates the approval process for new policies by presenting them to relevant decision-makers and ensuring that they align with the company’s objectives and values.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for COVID-19-related inquiries and concerns from employees and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure that job responsibilities are accurately documented in Standard Operating by collaborating with department supervision and stakeholders.
  • Ensures all driver qualification files have current documents, including commercial driver license, medical exam or certificate, farm labor vehicle certificate, pull notice, etc.
  • Schedules random drug and alcohol testing and medical exams on a timely basis and ensures appointments are kept and documents are received.
  • Reviews the random drug and alcohol testing and medical exam paperwork for accuracy.
  • Ensures all employee safety training records are in compliance with the IIPP.
  • Schedules medical/fit examination appointments for all chemical applicators
  • Establish protocols for COVID-19 testing, contact tracing, quarantine, and isolation procedures.
  • Act as a resource person for information and guidance on COVID-19 processes.
  • Conducts interviews with individuals with confirmed or probable COVID-19, discussing symptom onset to determine the window of exposure risk for close contacts.
  • Communicates promptly with individuals who have been identified as close contacts to review company protocols, including quarantine.
  • Responsible for coordinating all COVID-19 testing
  • Daily follow-up of affected individuals by phone to monitor progress and ensure they have completed required or recommended actions
  • Communicates plans of action with department management who have affected employees.
  • ensures confidentiality throughout the process in a manner that preserves the privacy of all involved parties.
  • Identifies conditions that could produce accidents and financial losses throughout the company.
  • Assists with the coordination and execution of the annual corporate office evacuation in conjunction with Post Harvest.
  • Maintains employee safety training records in compliance with the Injury and Illness Protection Program (IIPP).
  • Serves as a backup to conduct accident investigations, safety inspections, and training as needed.
  • Investigates and analyzes employee/vehicle accident causes, near misses, and hazards to health.
  • Addresses any complaints surrounding safety issues and reports findings to the safety supervisor.
  • Assists with audits and investigations by governmental agencies, including OSHA.
  • Assists in responses to inquiries by governmental agencies by gathering the information needed.
  • This position requires regular driving as an essential job function in overseeing and coordinating various aspects of the safety process.
  • Serve as the designated backup for workers’ compensation-related tasks, providing support in the processing of claims, communication with insurance providers, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and company policies.
  • Consistent attendance is mandatory.

Work environment:

  • Mostly indoor work with occasional outdoor work
  • Full time, Monday- Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm with some overtime and weekends

  • Occasional travel within the US, frequent overnight travel
  • No travel to Mexico
  • No seasonal relocation for Salinas based position

Required education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Proven experience in safety compliance or a related role, preferably in the agriculture industry
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify potential risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of employee rights and employer responsibilities, pertaining to safety, arising under federal and state laws, including OSHA and other regulatory agencies
  • Possess a strong foundation of knowledge in safety along with pertinent federal and state regulations/standards and required safety programs.
  • Experience with incident investigations, OSHA inspections.
  • Operation of standard office equipment, including personal computers, photocopier, fax machines and software such as Windows, Word and Excel
  • Bilingual and biliterate in English/Spanish
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively present facts and recommendations in oral and written form.
